2007-08 PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
July 2007
Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself as the Lansing
Dietetic Association president for 2007-2008. I’ve previously served on
the LDA board as treasurer (2005-2007) and nominating chair (2004-2005).
Last year I also had the great experience of serving on the MDA board as
the Nominating Chair.
I currently work part-time as a clinical dietitian at Sparrow Health
System.
I work with both the adult and pediatric population and love the
diversity.
My other roles include being a wife, and a mother of 2 small boys ages 3
and 11 months.
I’m so excited about this upcoming year, especially after meeting with
our dedicated LDA board last week. We looked at the membership/needs
assessment forms that we’ve already received and discussed the following
topics for the coming year: GI disorders (IBS/Celiac disease), culinary
skills, motivational interviewing, and health literacy. We plan to try
to incorporate some of these and others into presentations for CPE
credit during this upcoming year. In addition we will be keeping you up
to date on where licensure stands and other pertinent issues.
Our current LDA Board includes:
Emily Ostrowski, President
dorowemi@msu.edu
Melissa Lonsberry, Immediate Past President
karate_grrl@hotmail.com
Karen Giles-Smith, Communications Chair
kgs@udim.org
Mary Niester, Membership Chair/Secretary
mniester@umich.edu
Gail Hagbom, Treasurer
grhagbom@comcast.net
The President-Elect, Legislative and Public Policy Chair, and
Nominating Chair positions are currently open, so please consider these
opportunities.
Your membership forms are coming in and we appreciate your promptness.
At any time please contact any board member if you have questions or
suggestions for upcoming LDA programs or activities. Also, please
consider leadership positions within LDA/MDA, I’ve found the experiences
so rewarding and the networking invaluable.
Thank you so much for your commitment to LDA! I’m looking forward to
seeing you again or meeting you for the first time at our September
Social —details
to come. Please check out what’s new with LDA at eatrightlansing.org.
You will also find a link for membership forms at this address.
Sincerely,
Emily Ostrowski, RD

October 2005
Welcome to all LDA nutrition professionals and students.
We are coming to the close of our membership drive and it has been great
to see just how many like-minded individuals live in the Lansing area!
Continuing Education
Along with the membership application, the LDA asked for your input on
topics in nutrition you want to learn more about. Thank you for filling
out and sending back the Needs Assessment as the information compiled
from them will be being evaluated and used to plan our upcoming meetings
and continuing education sessions. We will send out the dates for these
upcoming sessions as soon as the topics, dates and locations are
finalized. We look forward to seeing you at these sessions!
The MDA Annual Conference
The MDA Annual conference is being planned. LDA member Mary Angela
Niester is the 2006 MDA Conference Chair. This informative event will be
held May 18-20, 2006 at the Holiday Inn in Livonia. Please mark your
calendar and plan on attending.

Yes, race planning is already underway! The race date has been set for
March 25, 2006. It will be located at Hawk Island Park off of Cavanaugh
