Kathy J. Shattler, M.S., RD
Position/Employer:  Nutri-Care Consulting Services

I am a dietitian building my own practice here in rural Owosso, Michigan.  My website will explain a great deal about the services I offer, which
include home care visits/nutritional education, classes, seminars, publications, designing educational material, etc.  I do see clients one-on-one in
their own homes where we work on what is in their cupboards, refrigerators and practice reading labels and preparing foods.  I generally begin
with a comprehensive assessment that is done with the help of NutriBase, interventions are planned and activities to achieve objectives are listed.
A fitness plan is always included.  Referrals are only necessary if they are using an insurance that requires this for billing.  I accept Medicare,
CAM, ASHN, Landmark, Zurich, Encore, Creative Solutions and Aetna.

I will be having an editorial (Handbook of Food-Drug Interactions) published in the August 2004 issue of Nutrition in Clinical Practice (ASPEN).
And then in an upcoming issue in Nursing 2004, I will have an article published with two other authors entitled Safe Practices in Tube Feeding.

I am also involved in getting ready to embark on another five-year portfolio period.  I already have a project lined up for 50 credits on a pilot
learning experience dealing with food intolerances and migraines/irritable bowel syndrome.  I am hoping to not only learn a great deal about
immunology and gut function, but to be a part of a pilot, internet/multifaceted approach to learning, and implementing and following up on
complex situations using a variety of media such as the phone, computer, face-to-face, mail.  I joined the complementary nutrition DPG this
year to further my knowledge base on supplements, herbs and complementary medicine. I am also considering joining the Entrepreneur group
as well.

I have recently been involved in keeping my website up and running, and, in the course of doing this published a paper by Dr. Sarna on
Dietetics in India on my page.  The article was subsequently borrowed by ADA for their spring newsletter and then borrowed by the
Overseas American Dietetic Association as a featured article. They were nice enough to list my website in the credits.

Position/Employer: Dietetics senior at MSU

Comments:  My interest is primarily clinical dietetics, but I am open to all sectors of the career. I will graduate in May of '05, and am looking forward to interning the following fall.
